Investment strategies
What is an investment fund?
Investment funds are instruments that allow many individual investors to invest both small and large sums of money. Professional fund managers invest the fund assets in securities, such as equities and bonds. Thanks to this collective investment approach, even small amounts can be invested across a broad range of assets. Investment funds are subject to strict regulation and are supervised by the financial market regulator, FINMA.
What are investment strategies?
Investment strategies define how the invested assets will be allocated among the various asset classes. Equities are principally associated with a higher fluctuation risk than bonds, which in turn carry a higher risk than money market investments. The higher the risk, the higher the profit potential as well as the risk of loss.
Which investment strategies does Avadis offer?
We offer seven investment funds with different investment strategies and associated risk-return profiles.
Can I invest in more than one investment strategy?
Yes, although you can only invest in one strategy per account. A separate securities account must be opened for each investment strategy.
Can I change my investment strategy later on?
Yes. If your goals, investment horizon or risk tolerance change, you can easily change your investment strategy free of charge in the app.
What are the risks involved in investing?
The value of your investments may rise or fall. As a rule, the expected fluctuation risk rises in line with the expected return.
Will I receive help with choosing a strategy?
Avadis does not offer individual investment advice. The choice of investment strategy depends on your investment horizon, your risk capacity and your risk tolerance. If you would like to gain a clearer overview of your financial situation, you can consult the financial planning experts at Avadis Finanzpartner.
Will I receive dividends/distributions?
Yes, once a year in April the income less withholding tax is distributed and subsequently reinvested.
Rebalancing
What does rebalancing mean?
The investment strategy defines how the invested assets are allocated across different asset classes, such as equities or bonds. Fluctuations in the financial markets may cause the actual allocation of assets to deviate from your defined strategy. For instance, strong Swiss stock markets will lead to an increase in the proportion of Swiss equities. During the monthly rebalancing, these deviations are reviewed and the invested assets are realigned with your defined strategy where necessary. This ensures that you always remain within your specified risk-return profile.
Fees / costs
How much does it cost to invest with Avadis?
Thanks to low management costs and streamlined structures, the total expense ratio (TER) of the Avadis funds is amongst the lowest on the market. You pay no additional fees for deposits, redemptions or changes of strategy. This means that you will receive a larger share of the return.
The TERs for the Avadis funds are specified in the factsheets.
What is the TER?
TER stands for Total Expense Ratio. It shows a fund’s annual running costs as a percentage of its assets under management. You can use it to compare the costs of different funds. In contrast to many other providers that charge additional custody fees, Avadis applies no custody fees.
The TERs for the Avadis funds are specified in the factsheets.
What does 0% custody fees mean?
Fund units are normally held in a securities account with a bank or a broker. Financial institutions often charge a custody fee for this, in addition to the fund costs (TER). With Avadis, you pay no custody fees for your fund units.
How are the costs of an Avadis fund made up?
The total expense ratio (TER) reflects the ongoing costs of a fund. These include, in particular, the costs of asset management, fund management, the custodian bank and other service providers. In addition, the fund incurs transaction costs on the financial markets and costs relating to the auditing company.
The TERs for the Avadis funds are specified in the factsheets.
Risks
How secure are investment funds?
Investment funds are subject to statutory supervision and are classified as ‘special assets’ that offer investors special protection. This means that the fund assets are legally segregated in favour of the investors and are not included in the estate if the fund management becomes insolvent.
What risks do I face when I invest in a fund?
The value of investments in securities such as equities and bonds may rise or fall. As a rule, the risk and volatility associated with an investment are greater the more equities you hold and the higher the expected return.
Administrative matters
Will I receive a tax certificate for my tax return?
Yes. You will receive your tax certificate in the Avadis app in the fourth quarter of every year.
How do I declare the assets on my tax return?
Declare the assets like a bank account subject to withholding tax or a tax rated securities account statement. You must enter the taxable assets and the gross income.
How do I report a change of address?
You can change your address in the Avadis app.
